One of the tragedies of the last forty seven years of Nigeria's independence is the way successive civilian and military administrations have played lip service to their promises of providing basic health care to all. Almost two decades ago, commercials such as 'health for all by the year 2000', 'affordable medicare for the old by the year 2000' was common in most national radio and television stations in the country.
