What is it about the past that haunts us? In the small collection of very angry e-mails received in response to my last few columns, one refrain runs throughout: why do you insist on digging up the past?
Almost every single one of those noisy e-mails is from white South African men. Because they do not know me, or what I do, the anger turns very personal, intense and dismissive.
